ABOUT ME
Well hello there! If we haven’t met, how do you do? If we have, nice to see you again!
As you’re here on my About Me page, I’m guessing you’re wondering who this Laura Jane Stack is (it’s me!)
Well, buckle in – it’s been quite a ride!
10 years ago I left a toxic workplace and started freelancing as a video producer.
I began the old-fashioned way, hitting the networking events, having endless “getting to know you” chats and landing just enough work to keep things afloat.
Fast forward 5 years and 2 kids later, it was impossible to keep up the hustle. I needed a way to be visible that didn’t mean spending half my life in coffee shops.
Given my background in video, it seemed obvious… except recording myself? That was a whole different story.

I’d overthink everything, spend hours setting up the “perfect” shot, recording take after take, only to post it and spend the next days worrying about negative comments.
I’d be so exhausted that I’d spend the weeks that followed in hiding, before I mustered up the energy to do it again.
Meanwhile, I was watching someone in the same niche as me sharing what I thought were sub-par videos, but growing with, evidently, a lot more success.
The difference: She wasn’t focused on perfecting her production, but on getting her message out there, consistently.
I followed suit with messy action and finally, it started to click.
You see, when you stop looking at video as this big creative medium, and see it for what it really is, a tool to communicate, everything changes.
Because communication breeds relationships and relationships are the catalyst for everything you do.
At first, I started with what I knew, making people laugh. I’d make little skits and tell embarassing stories and the response was huge.
Actually my most watched video on “professional” LinkedIn has an adult toy in it. (You can watch it here!)
But while humour is a great way to connect with people, it’s not enough.
If you want to make a real impact (and not just a fan club), you need to be trusted as an authority on your subject.

So next, I focused on the authority piece. I committed to posting a video tip on LinkedIn every day for 100 days.
The result? I finally saw the effect of the thing that had been right under my nose all along.
My videos were getting attention but crucially, for me, so was my business.
I went from having to fight for every crumb of recognition to actually having a voice people respected and clients reaching out to work with me.
So I knew video had the power to transform my business, but then something even more incredible happened…
When I began to share what I’d learned with others, they started to see similar, if not better, results – despite their industries being wildly different.
Their audiences were growing and new clients, commissions and collaborations were coming in – all because they were sharing their expertise on video.
Working with more clients, I saw similar patterns repeat.
Established experts who have the all the credentials, but who aren’t being seen in a way that reflects that.
Not because they lack expertise, but because the way they communicate isn’t doing it justice.
